We’ve all been disappointed with which of our old items parents decide to throw out after we leave home. For me, it was things like old anime magazines, posters, maybe toy or two. But for one 43-year old Michigan man, his parents threw out one of the most important things to him, his porn collection.
David Werking took his parents to court for throwing out his adult film, magazine, and “other item” collection. He was living with his parents during his divorce, and realized the collection was gone. Because of the high appraisal value of the missing items, Werking was granted $30,441.
$14,500 of that is going to his attorney.
Werking’s parents housed the divorcee until he got his own place, thought it was their right to dispose of anything they saw unfit. But since they phrased it in a way that they were the “landlords,” they were judged against.
“Werking’s parents said they had a right to act as his landlords.
“Defendants do not cite to any statute or caselaw to support their assertion that landlords can destroy property that they dislike,” the judge said.”

The judges ruling for the payment owed came eight months after Werking initially took his parents to court. His father said that getting rid of that stuff was doing him a favor in an email which was used as more evidence against the parents.
