I’m actually shocked that I haven’t heard more about “The Harder They Fall” until now. I pride myself in keeping a pretty good ear on the streets for what’s coming, so when the trailer for the new Netflix filmed dropped, I kicked myself for not championing the film sooner. The streaming powerhouse seems to not be here to play games, dropping a brilliantly crafted trailer for their upcoming star studded, action packed western.
I can’t stress enough how good the trailer is. Even if the movie ends up being average (the casting seems to say otherwise) the trailer is action packed, beautifully shot, colorful, violent, humorous and intriguing. THIS is how you get people excited about a film, and “The Harder They Fall” looks to be one hell of a ride. It’s a classic shoot em up style that seems to remind us that westerns are fun.
Directed by Jeymes Samuel of The Bullits fame, “The Harder They Fall” will serve as his first feature film directorial debut, and if the trailer is any indication it looks like Samuel is up to the challenge. It also helps that the film is produced by none other than Jay-Z (who Samuel worked with directing his short film ) and powerhouse producer James Lassiter who has a long list of credits including I, Robot, I am Legend, and Hancock to name a few. Actually, almost every Will Smith film in the last 15 years has been produced by Lassiter. Needless to say, there’s a lot of money behind “The Harder They Fall” which is probably why the cast is so damn good.
“The Harder They Fall” stars Regina King, Lakieth Stanfield, Idris Alba, Delroy Lindo, Jonathan Majors, Zazie Beets, Edi Gathegi, and RJ Cyler. The film will follow Majors’ character Nat Love (a real life cowboy) who reassembles his gang (the real life Rufus Gang) to exact revenge on the man who murdered his parents. The film will also feature original music by Jay-Z, making “The Harder They Fall” firing on all revolvers.
No official release date has been announced for the film, so for now we’ll just have to salivate over this awesome trailer. “The Harder They Fall” looks to be one helluva of western, and I for one cannot wait to saddle up and wreak some gunslinger havoc.
You can watch the trailer for “The Harder They Fall” below. It’ll premiere on Netflix sometime this fall.
