While cameras are currently rolling on Disney’s live-action adaptation of “The Little Mermaid” starring Hallie Bailey, a surprise announcement this morning revealed what the next classic animated film is getting the remake treatment. According to the usual suspects (Deadline), “Snow White” will be the next Disney Princess to get a live-action remake from the studio.
The real surprise? Newcomer Rachel Zegler, who stars in Steven Spielberg‘s upcoming “West Side Story,” will be playing Snow.
While other details are pretty scarce, we do know that Marc Webb will direct, with Marc Platt producing.
“Rachel’s extraordinary vocal abilities are just the beginning of her gifts. Her strength, intelligence and optimism will become an integral part of rediscovering the joy in this classic Disney fairytale,” Webb said about the news.
Reports vary, but it sounds like a 2022 production kick off is likely.
“West Side Story” will hit theaters on December 10th, 2021.
