We love highlighting superb artists and creators here at Nerdbot, and our friends over at The Crafty Celts are some of the best around. Like many, you probably first learned about Danny Hanson and his homegrown forge from HISTORY channel’s “Vikings.”

Now imagine the same incredible craftsmanship was pairing up with the Jim Henson Company to offer fans a special line of officially licensed “The Dark Crystal” inspired pieces.

Pulling from design elements from the original 1982 high fantasy epic, The Crafty Celts line of “The Dark Crystal” jewelry includes elements of both the Skeksis and the Mystics.

You can see all the item listings here.

    DARK CRYSTAL JEWELRY

My poor World of Dark Crystal book! I have loved it so much that it is literally falling apart. This book has been a constant companion and source of inspiration since Christmas of 1982.

I was 15 that year, and my family traveled up to Philadelphia to spend our Christmas break with my aunt, uncle and cousins. This really fantastic looking movie called The Dark Crystal was coming out, and I was very excited about it! So my mom and aunt took me and my sister to see it, about a week after it premiered. The movie theater was a converted opera house, and was absolutely the grandest building I had ever been in. Down south we don’t have movie theaters like that, and it very much set the stage for seeing what was probably the most influential movie of my young life!

My mother surprised me with this book as a Christmas present! I spent the rest of my Christmas break pouring over it, and I have never stopped referring back to it, for a window into a world of artistic perfection. And now, almost 40 years later, I have the opportunity to bring these designs to life.

    – Danny Hansen

More pieces are expected to arrive on Crafty Celt’s website as Danny completes them, including a Fizzgig!

She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (where she is still Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (where she was News Editor), and now Nerdbot as Editor-In-Chief. Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.
