Michelle Obama announced Tuesday that a new children’s show would be coming to Netflix from the Obama’s production company. The show will teach kids how to choose healthier food options and how to make dishes from around the world. It is called “Waffles and Mochi,” and will feature some very kid-friendly Muppets.

    Obama tweeted this morning:

I’m beyond thrilled to share that on March 16, I’ll be launching a new show on @netflix called Waffles + Mochi! I’m excited for families and children everywhere to join us on our adventures as we discover, cook, and eat delicious food from all over the world.

She also tweeted that she was excited to be working with the Partnership for a Healthier America “to help kids build healthy habits and help families in need cook with fresh ingredients together at home.”

In 2019, the Obamas signed a deal with Netflix and their production company, Higher Ground Productions. Since then, they have released “American Factory,” “Crip Camp,” and “Becoming.” “Waffles + Mochi” will be the first children’s program from the deal.

Former President Barak Obama spoke to the New York Times about the series, saying:

“One of the simple joys of our time in public service was getting to meet so many fascinating people from all walks of life, and to help them share their experiences with a wider audience. That’s why Michelle and I are so excited to partner with Netflix — we hope to cultivate and curate the talented, inspiring, creative voices who are able to promote greater empathy and understanding between peoples, and help them share their stories with the entire world.”

“Waffles + Mochi” will premiere on Netflix March 16th, 2021.
