Patrick Stewart Sits Atop the Mountain in Whimsical New Super Bowl Ad

It turns out the reason that Captain Kirk was climbing the mountain was because he was going to be on Paramount+’s platform. It may not be Kirk featured in this odd commercial but we do get to have a few “Star Trek” characters prominently featured.

In this new Super Bowl ad spot we see Patrick Stewart joined by other icons such as Beavis and Butthead; Blue Bloods‘ Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck); Dora the Explorer; Star Trek: Discovery‘s Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green); Star Trek: Strange New Worlds‘  Pike (Anson Mount) and Spock (Ethan Peck); The Good Fight‘s Diane Lockhart (Christine Baranski); the MTV Astronaut; and S.W.A.T.‘s Hondo (Shemar Moore).

Joined by others on the platform Patrick Stewart says that “they live here now” and drinks from the bar being tended by Stephen Colbert. This commercial has got everything! Including a performance by Spongebob singing “Sweet Victory.” “What do we do now?” they ask. Stewart’s response is “We dance.” Kind of a weird commercial but we’re here for it. We love awkward weirdness!

I can’t help but think of the video where Kirk “makes love to the mountain” in the viral video that’s been around for ages. Here’s a throwback to when we pondered “why is Kirk climbing the mountain?” Because it looks like Paramount+ has now answered the question.

Even though the mountain featured is “Paramount Mountain” and not Kirk’s it’s still nice to call back on silly things. It probably wasn’t their intent to have these two things connect but it sure is what we thought of.
