Walt Disney Studios is definitely moving forward with a second live-action (yeah, we know, their words, not ours) “The Lion King” film.
This time, Oscar winner Barry Jenkins (“Moonlight,” “If Beale Street Could Talk“) will be directing instead of Jon Favreau.
“Helping my sister raise two young boys during the ’90s, I grew up with these characters,” Jenkins said in a statement about the news. “Having the opportunity to work with Disney on expanding this magnificent tale of friendship, love and legacy while furthering my work chronicling the lives and souls of folk within the African diaspora is a dream come true.”
This story is developing, we’ll let you know what else we hear.
