Remember how…confused…we all were when director Quentin Tarantino announced his plans to write and direct an R-Rated upcoming “Star Trek” film? Sure, we were morbidly curious to see what he would do with the property from a purely academic stance- but we can all agree it would have been pretty bat-shit crazy.
Just this week, Paramount Pictures got themselves a brand new Motion Picture Group President, Melissa Watts. One of her first orders of business? Reportedly trying to figure out what’s next for the “Star Trek” movie franchise.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Watts wants to re-asses the upcoming Paramount Pictures release slate, which includes any possible Trek films.
Namely, the much anticipated continuation of JJ Abrams‘ Kelvin Universe, with a 4th film, that “Legion” and “Fargo” helmer Noah Hawley was set to tackle. Which, unfortunately, also doesn’t seem to be happening with Hawley or the possible story line we’ve been hearing rumored for the past few years.
Oscar winner Tarantino has also, reportedly, stepped away from a possible film in the franchise as well.
This means as it stands right now, there are no current Trek films in the pipeline. This is likely to change we think, but, it’s a sad state of things.
We will of course let you know what we hear about any of this.
Live long and prosper.
