If you were lucky enough to be a young person in the late 90s with access to PBS, chances are you know exactly who Wishbone is. The precocious Jack Russell terrier with a love for retelling classic stories from novels across the world introduced a generation to books they may have other-wise not ever cracked open. (This is not to take anything away from “Reading Rainbow,” which of course had been doing the same thing for years before Wishbone. But you don’t have to take my word for it.)

The news today is that yes, that rumor from earlier this year is absolutely true- we’re getting a Wishbone movie!
For Mattel Films, Robbie Brenner will executive produce and oversee “Wishbone” along with Kevin McKeon. Lexi Barta will oversee the project for Universal Pictures. Mattel Films will also produce alongside Peter Farrelly, who will direct the film from a script by Roy Parker.
“Our deep library of iconic franchises continues to offer cinematic storytelling opportunities,” Brenner said in a statement about the news. “We’re thrilled to be working with Peter Farrelly, Roy Parker and Universal to take the beloved dog classic into a new direction with a modern reimagination of the franchise.”
We will of course let you know what we hear about this project. We can’t wait to see the cast list! Who’s gonna play Wanda?!
