Sometimes nature is harsh. And whether we want to admit it or not that’s just how the world is. Luckily for this abandoned possum- he was found and rescued. Which is a good thing because in the wild genetic mutations like this could be a huge target on the animals back. Because of the color of the fur, its likely they would have been eaten by a predator. Now they have a nice home and we’ve fallen in love with it. And its all thanks to the Boronia Veterinary Clinic and Animal Hospital in Melbourne, Australia
“We recently had a very special possum brought in to the clinic. The golden color occurs due to a mutation which causes a low level of the pigment melanin which gives them their normal color. They are so rare in the wild as although their bright color makes them look special to us, they also stand out to predators! Luckily for this baby brushtail, she’s gone to carers to be raised and then will end up in a wildlife sanctuary so she can live a long happy life.”

It may not actually be a Pikachu, but it’s probably the closest thing we’re going to get. Unless scientists find a way to genetically engineer them. But we all know how that turns out…
