We are so gutted to share the news of the passing of writer, director, producer, actor, and editor Lynn Shelton. She passed away on Friday, May 15th due to a previously unidentified blood disorder.

Chances are, you’ve seen her work. She was a prolific director across television, both cable and streaming, as well as a beacon in the indie film world.

Her partner, actor Marc Maron, released a rather heartbreaking statement about Shelton’s passing. He shares with the world that Shelton, who had fallen ill the previous week, succumbed to an unknown, underlying condition, and that it was not COVID-19 related.

Shelton and Maron were in the process of writing a film together, as they revealed in an interview with IndieWire last month.

You can read his statement below:

“I have some awful news. Lynn passed away last night. She collapsed yesterday morning after having been ill for a week. There was a previously unknown, underlying condition. It was not COVID-19. The doctors could not save her. They tried. Hard.

I loved her very much as I know many of you did as well. It’s devastating. I am leveled, heartbroken and in complete shock and don’t really know how to move forward in this moment. I needed you all to know. I don’t know some of you. Some I do. I’m just trying to let the people who were important to her know.

She was a beautiful, kind, loving, charismatic artist. Her spirit was pure joy. She made me happy. I made her happy. We were happy. I made her laugh all the time. We laughed a lot. We were starting a life together. I really can’t believe what is happening. This is a horrendous, sad loss.”

Thank you for everything, Lynn. You will be tremendously missed.

Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.
