A golden retriever named Sunny who lives in Manitou Springs, Colorado is being a very good boy. Every time their owners go out to grocery shop he makes a trip to the neighbors house and picks up a list of things they need. It is one of the highlights of the neighbors day as they are all responsibly practicing social distancing.
Karen Eleveth wanted to help her neighbor Renee Hellman because she knows that it is much harder for her to go out than others during this time. She relies on an oxygen tank and has an compromised immune system. So by just helping her get food is a bid feat and a great thing to do. The dog not only retrieves the list but it also delivers the food after its owners shop.
Renee said, “What a wonderful thing, just a sweet thing. …So he started doing the schlepping, back and forth. It’s been fun, it’s been a real treat. …Little things like Sunny coming over to visit is nice, and it makes you feel good. It’s a way of communicating.”
Everyday heroes are needed now more than ever and sometimes even the smallest gesture can mean the world to someone. You don’t always have to come into contact with people but leaving a nice note, or making a phone call to your elderly friends may be just what the doctor ordered.
