Lucasfilms is Courting Taika Waititi For New Star Wars Film

Taika Waititi who recently worked on the hit show for Disney + The Mandalorian is now being courted by Lucasfilms for a new Star Wars film. He has been responsible for many great nerdy films such as Thor: Ragnarok and What We Do In The Shadows. In fact his name has been everywhere lately with his newest film Jojo Rabbit nominated for multiple Oscars at the Academy Awards, including the Best Picture.

So far there is no word on whether or not this would mean for his next projects, one which he is currently working with Disney on right now. Thor: Love and Thunder is slated to come out November 5, 2021 and multiple other things are lined up after that. More than likely they would stay on schedule with Thor and immediately after start working on Star Wars pushing back his other projects if they can. Otherwise they may have to wait a while for his schedule to free up.

It’s a great idea to have him come on board for another Star Wars film. With the Skywalker Saga all cleared away that leaves room for him to cover pretty much anything he wants to. He can create a new character or choose someone we hadn’t thought of diving into the history of. Money talks in this case and Waititi is no exception, but since he’s highly sought after it may take more than just money to sway him. He would probably also need complete creative control. We will be waiting to hear what develops with this and let you know as soon as we have more information regarding when and what they will be collaborating on.

And if this new film has more witty banter with stormtroopers all the more reason to have him handle it. Hate me all you want that Baby Yoda Punching scene was comedy gold.
