Laura Dern Open To Reprising Ellie Sattler Role in “Jurassic World 3”

Jurassic World 3 will complete the trilogy of the Jurassic World films. The first Jurassic World debuted in 2015 and was followed by Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom in 2018. Fallen Kingdom saw some dinosaurs, including Blue the velociraptor, escape into the wild and it is assumed that the third film will deal with the repercussions of the escape. Although the plot of the movie has been kept tightly under wraps, it has been mentioned that the film would focus on “real” dinosaurs instead of the hybrids seen in previous films.

Chris Pratt (Owen Grady) and Bryce Dallas Howard (Claire Dearing) will be returning for Jurassic World 3. Howard has expressed her interest in seeing characters from the original Jurassic Park appear in Jurassic World 3. Speaking with CinemaBlend she said “In terms of the third movie, the goal overall is to bring the entire saga together. It’ll be the sixth film at the end of the day. For me, what I’m most wanting, other than an undercut, is for there to be more characters from the earlier films.”

B.D. Wong who appeared as a scientist in Jurassic Park reprised his character in Fallen Kingdom. Jeff Goldblum had a cameo in Fallen Kingdom as his Jurassic Park character Ian Malcolm and has said that he would love to return for this third film as well. Another Jurassic Park alumni who would be open to appearing is Laura Dern, who played Dr. Ellie Sattler. Dern was asked about Jurassic World 3 during an Entertainment Tonight interview she was doing with J. T. LeRoy co-star Kristen Stewart. “I mean, I love Dr. Ellie Sattler so I could never say no to that on any level,” Dern commented.

Jurassic World 3 director and screenplay co-writer Colin Trevorrow had previously teased that he might be interested in bringing back Dr. Sattler, pointing out that “she never got to have her own movie.” Goldblum’s Ian Malcolm was a main character in Jurassic Park 2 and Sam Neill’s Alan Grant was a main character in Jurassic Park 3, but Dern’s Ellie Sattler only had a small role in the latter movie.

Whether she gets a chance to reprise her role in Jurassic Park 3, Dern already feels like one of the gang. On her first meeting with Chris Pratt she said, “I met Chris recently at a restaurant and we didn’t know each other…It was really funny, we ran into each other’s arms and hugged each other like we were family, because we’re both in the same movie [franchise]… He just seemed fantastic and hilarious.”

Jurassic World 3 will be released on June 11, 2021. A sneak peek short film should appear this year in showings of Hobbs and Shaw, a spinoff from the Fast and Furious franchise.
