“Endgame” Has Record Opening In China

The Endgame juggernaut keeps rolling along, trampling records in its path. It already holds the record for the most viewed trailer in a 24-hour period for its first-look trailer on December 7 with 289 million views. Its second trailer released in March rose to second place with 268 million views. And at the number 3 spot? Infinity War with 230 million in 24 hours for its first trailer.

When advance tickets went on sale on April 2, Endgame took the number one spot for advance ticket sales in 24 hours after just 6 hours! And it crashed a number of ticket sale sites along the way.

There has been speculation that Endgame might have the biggest opening ever, especially since its debut in China will be factored into its opening sales. Endgame has premiered in China and it has smashed some more records. With $28.2 million from midnight showings and an estimated $107.2 million opening day box office, it has taken the number one spot for highest grossing opening day box office in China as well as most advance ticket sales in China (previous title holder Monster Hunt 2 for both records). It seems that on opening day Endgame was almost the only game in town in China. Endgame accounted for 99% of the tickets sold on Wednesday and 83% of the screen showings. Projections currently suggest that it could earn $521 million over the course of its run in China. If so, Endgame could become the number one foreign film and the fourth highest grossing film of all time in China. It has received high marks on Chinese movie rating site Douban (9.2/10) so the response has been positive.

Endgame has sold $110 million advance tickets in China and $120 million domestically. With a predicted $800-900 million dollar opening when it debuts in the US this Friday, some are wondering if it could even make it to the $1 billion mark in its opening weekend. That would be extremely hard to pull off, but if Endgame continues its record-breaking trend it might just be able to make it.

The question is, will you be buying tickets to contribute to Endgame‘s opening box office? That is if you can find some showings that aren’t already sold out.

I am still waiting for that blue police box to take me on a star trek to a galaxy far, far away. Until then I will have to content myself with fantasy and sci-fi adventures from books, movies, and TV shows.
