Two childhood favorites are making their way to the big screen. Release dates have been announced by Warner Bros. for Sesame Street and Tom & Jerry.

Sesame Street is scheduled for January 15, 2021. It is a live-action musical directed by Jonathan Krisel. Sesame Street will include the beloved Jim Henson characters from the children’s television show that debuted back in 1969. Anne Hathaway is rumored to have the lead role. Shawn Levy is producing with Michael Aguilar. Levy said in an interview with Screen Rant “The trick there is to honor these characters that are beloved but in a movie that feels entertaining for the kids who we might bring to the movie—and humorous on that second level for the parents who bring their kids.”

Tom&Jerry will debut on April 16, 2021. It is a mixed CGI and live-action film that will supposedly see the famous cat and mouse duo working together to protect themselves and their human family from an outside threat. Tim Story is set to direct. Tom&Jerry have been fighting each other in Hanna Barbera cartoons since the 1940s (114 shorts were created between 1940 and 1958). They appeared in an animated film Tom and Jerry: The Movie in 1992. Of course, Jerry the mouse had a mixed animation/live-action movie appearance way back in 1944 with his famous dance scene with Gene Kelly in Anchors Aweigh.

I am still waiting for that blue police box to take me on a star trek to a galaxy far, far away. Until then I will have to content myself with fantasy and sci-fi adventures from books, movies, and TV shows.
