The Hotel Transylvania franchise ($1.36 billion) is still going strong, with a release date for Hotel Transylvania 4 being announced for December 22, 2021.
The first two films premiered in September, while the third film in the series had a July release date to coincide with its title: Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation. Does that mean Hotel Transylvania 4 will get into the holiday spirit? It seems unlikely that the monsters would celebrate a holiday other than Halloween, but then who would have thought that they would go on a cruise? And Jack Skellington certainly caught the Christmas spirit from “Sandy Claws” in Nightmare before Christmas so who knows.
Summer Vacation debuted at the number 1 box office spot and went on to earn $528 million, making it Sony Picture’s biggest animated movie. It even out-earned the previous film in the franchise. Not sure if Hotel Transylvania 4 can replicate that feat as it will face stiff holiday competition: Avatar 3, the big screen adaptation of Wicked, an un-named Disney live-action film, and an un-named Warner Bros. animated film.
Here’s looking forward to another visit with the Drac family in 2021!
