“Bullet Train” has all the cast and charm of “Smokin’ Aces” but all the messiness and pointlessness of “Smokin’ Aces 2.”

Sitting on a backlog of festival films has become rather tedious, especially considering that many of the ones I really want to discuss and review don’t even have release dates yet. Hell, some of them don’t even have distribution and are still making their rounds in smaller, more regional festivals both domestically and internationally. Nevertheless, there are still some that are trickling out with official release dates, and we’ve got a nice new batch of festival films dropping this month. Many are actually coming out the first week in August, which is stacking up to be one helluva a new…
It’s that time again! That wonderful time of the month where I dig through my extensive and albeit dated DVD collection to highlight some under the radar films that you may or may not have seen. This is always a fun capsule review series, because not only do I get to recommend some truly out there films, but I also get revisit them after many getting lost in the constant shuffle of never ending content. Be warned: this month’s list packed with odd, out of the box off the wall selections that may not be for everyone. I don’t think…
The Russo Brothers’ “The Gray Man” is the sum of other, better films, rested squarely on the shoulders of Chris Evans.
I’m not the biggest wrestling fan. In fact, I don’t think I’ve watched a minute of any pro-wresting in the last 10-15 years. However, when I was a young impressionable teenager during the attitude era, I couldn’t get enough of it. And that of course includes Mr. Y2J himself, Chris Jericho. So when I was given the chance to sit down with him for a few minutes to discuss his most recent project, I absolutely HAD to say yes! Fresh off a recent match where he broke his nose, Jericho showed up at SDCC to promote his new graphic novel…
You really have to hand it to Jordan Peele. The man has made a huge leap from sketch comedy to powerful filmmaker. One who is set on a visceral visual experience that will always leave you desperate to discuss it immediately after it. He does this by tackling genres (thriller, horror, and now sci-fi) and not only subverting them but paying homage to everything that came before it. That is most certainly what is happening in “Nope,” a subverted love letter to the sci-fi and creature feature genre. Borrowing from things like “Jaws” and “E.T” without ever feeling like he…
“Whoa!” I think we have an “Emergency,” because things just got a little “Brighter” for Paramore fans who have patiently been waiting to scream “Hallelujah” for more Paramore. The pop punk band seems to have been feeling the “Pressure,” and after a five year hiatus, the return to the stage for a North American tour, proving they were in fact, “Born for This.” So, “Here We Go Again,” and with this announcement I think it’s safe to say things are “Looking Up” for Paramore and their very patient fans! No, I will not apologize for the Paramore song title puns.…
“Ms Marvel” stands its ground as a lighthearted coming of age story that delightfully relishes in its cheekiness and charming lead, all of which feels like a breath of fresh air among an increasingly weighty phase.
Here’s a list of 5 film festival titles getting releases in July 2022. Some are on streaming, some are limited theatrical runs.
“The Boys” season 3 is a damn near flawless outing from a consistently great show. Seasons 1-3 available on Amazon Prime Video.
