It’s hard to believe the Oscars are right around the corner! If you’re like me (which I’m sure most of you aren’t since I obsess over pointless award shows for more months that I would like to admit) then you’ll have some pretty strong opinions on each of the films nominated this year. Though there are plenty of snubs and some surprise inclusions, it’s actually a pretty diverse collection of films. After a rather chaotic awards season in the precursors that seem to have shattered even the most astute Oscar prognosticators, I don’t anyone has any clue as to what is going to happen. That being said, it’s time for the Nerdbot staff to make their final predictions for the Academy Awards. Despite some dominate showings from early frontrunners, I don’t think anyone or any film has it in the bag. Though somewhat hollow, “Creed III” still packs a punch and stays thrilling even if it’s right hook isn’t a knockout.

“Cocaine Bear” works best when it is leaning into the silly, campy and over the top absurdity of its premise, but fails to focus on its strengths and gets lost in a sea of uninteresting human characters.

Ant-man and the Wasp: Quantumania” just feels like a lazy, a check the box entry without any originality or invention, and the continuity of the story after matters more than the story that is being told.

It’s quite a wonder that a film like “The Amazing Maurice” has received zero marketing of any kind whatsoever. It’s based on an award winning children’s novel, has a stellar celebrity voice cast, and feels right in line with some of the rather strong animated offerings we’ve had in the last few months.
