It’s been 7 whole years since “The Last Sharknado: It’s About Time” was released. Now, given that title, we all safely assumed there would be no more films about tornadoes welding sharks. We were wrong.
The Asylum has announced a 7th installment to the franchise, “Sharknado Origins.”

Production on the new film is slated to begin later this year. Franchise staple Anthony Ferrante will be returning to direct.
As the title implies, this film will take place before the first installment, released in 2013. It will center around teenage Finn and April, played by Ian Ziering and Tara Reid, respectively, in previous films. The two meet during a summer on the beach and immediately fall for each other. As the couple is about to enter the promise ring era of their relationship, a Sharknado happens.
It’s unknown at this time who will play the younger versions of Finn and April. It’s also unknown who will fill the guest star roles that the franchise has become famous for. Cameos currently include Olivia Newton-John, Al Roker, Billy Ray Cyrus, Jerry Springer, Ann Coulter, Jackie Collins, George R.R. Martin, and David Hasselhoff.
“Sharknado Origins” is currently slated for a 2026 release. We’ll keep you posted on updates about the project as it develops. You can check out the first teaser poster below:
