Sports movies are a fertile subgenre even for the most niche competition, like ping pong. A24’s newest film, “Marty Supreme,” is a fictionalized biopic of ping pong champ Marty Reisman. The movie is directed by Josh Safdie (“Adam Sandler: Love You”) and stars Oscar nominee Timothée Chalamet (“Dune,” “A Complete Unknown”).
The upcoming film is co-written by Safdie and Ronald Bronstein, the same duo behind “Uncut Gems.”

Set in the 1950s, the movie tells the story of Marty Mauser (Chalamet) as he pursues a rather lofty dream. The film’s trailer shows him going from a hardened hustler in New York to beating the “wizard of table tennis”.
Chalamet stars alongside Gwyneth Paltrow (“The Politician”), Odessa A’zion (“Until Dawn”), and Tyler ‘The Creator’ Okonma, making his feature film debut.
