With cooler weather in the air, winter (aka holiday movie season) will soon be upon us. Macaulay Culkin is celebrating the 35th anniversary of “Home Alone” by reprising his role as Kevin McCallister in a new ad for Home Instead. The first of these spots, titled “Home But Not Alone,” has him reuniting with Old Man Marley’s granddaughter.
In the 1990 film, Culkin defends his family’s house against bumbling buglers with a series of boobytraps. The first ad in the series still has him protecting his childhood home, but this time against the ravages of age.

Home Instead
It opens with the actor laying out “Mom’s safety plan,” written in bold colors on a sheet of paper. We see him start to bubble wrap the house while talking on the phone. “I’m just worried about Mom being by herself, y’know? What if she falls down or gets snowed in? They never did catch that South Bay Shovel Slayer,” he explains.
While he covers the outside of the home, he hears the familiar scrap of a shovel. Startled, he looks up and sees a young woman who identifies herself as Old Man Marley’s granddaughter. After overhearing some of his conversation, she asks a very awkward question.
“Have you tried to talk to her about getting a little help?” she asks.
“I’m afraid to bring it up,” Kevin confesses.
“The scariest part is starting that conversation, then at least you’ll know and can stop worrying about it. It’s not easy. But how you feel about family is a complicated thing,” she responds, adding some of Marley’s charm in the last lines.
“It was just like your grandfather!” he laughs. “The face, the eye, the boots! It gave me chills. You nailed it!”
Other ads include one in which Kevin orders his mother a pizza, picks up her groceries, and finally leaves her at home… alone…
