Ben Zazove and Evan Turner, the writing duo behind the action comedy “The Out-Laws,” are moving into the world of video games. New Line has confirmed that Zazove and Turner will pen the script for the “Space Invaders” movie.
This upcoming film is be based on the Taito arcade game of the same name.

Developed by Tomohiro Nishikado, the arcade game first hit the market in 1978, quickly becoming a massive success. In the game, players have to defend Earth from an alien invasion, by shooting down spaceships littering the sky before they touch the ground.
Decades later it’s considered a cornerstone video game title that helped fuel the golden age of arcade gaming. Its spawned countless sequel games and re-releases along with being adapted into books and endlessly referenced in films/movies. However, this movie will be the first big screen adaptation solely based on the IP.
This early into development, the movie’s storyline and plot details are still under wraps.
Akiva Goldsman will produce “Space Invaders” for Weed Road Pictures with Safehouse Pictures partners Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell. Greg Lessans and Rachel Wizenberg will oversee for Weed Road with Matt Schwartz doing the same for Safehouse.
