How gaming sites use bonuses to attract players

What kind of bonuses are there?

Most legal online casinos that operate worldwide have three main types of start-up bonuses for new players: deposit bonuses, freespins and no deposit bonuses.

Many such casinos are regularly reviewed and compared on platforms like this one, helping users make informed choices.

Deposit bonuses involve the player making a cash deposit before starting the game. For example, with a 100% deposit bonus, your game balance will be double the amount of the deposit made.

Free spins – one of the simplest types of bonuses, which allows you to spin (make a spin) the slot a certain number of times. Depending on the size of the deposit made, players can get different amounts of freespins for different types of slots.

Free spins can also be won as a final game bonus. Many online casinos use freespins to attract more players, as this type of bonus allows you to start playing immediately after registering on the site.

The essence of a no deposit bonus is to get additional opportunities to play without depositing any funds to your balance. This can include both freespins and free chips for some card games, the opportunity to test any type of slot machines in their demo version, etc.

Apart from these types of bonuses, online casino users can use promo codes to start playing with a certain prize amount. Some online casinos also offer their customers cashback on certain bets, which allows them to accumulate money and use it to play later.

    Wagers

A key condition for the use of bonuses is wagers, which ensure that the principle of fair play is enforced.

In the case of online casinos, the wager is the number of wagers you must wager before you can withdraw money from your bonus account.

If the wager is x20, this means that in order to withdraw winnings from the bonus, the player must wager 20 times the initial bonus amount.

This rule also applies to many no deposit bonuses — see real examples here.

    Why do we need wagers?

The main purpose of a wager is to attract players and give them the opportunity to play without making a deposit.

This option is great for beginners who are interested in starting a real game, but without spending their own money.

Wagers are also needed to combat ‘bonushunters’ or bonus hunters: in the past, some online casinos allowed you to withdraw bonuses without wagering or with a minimum number of bets.

This was exploited by bonushunters who registered on different platforms just to get bonuses.

The right size of the wager ensures that the principles of fair play are ensured for both the player and the casino itself. If the requirements of the casino are too strict – it is easier for the player to refuse bonuses and use his own money.
