“Pinocchio: Unstrung” Gets Unnerving First Look

The team behind “Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey,” have set their sights on corrupting everyone’s favorite marionette in “Pinocchio: Unstrung.” Horror icons Robert Englund (“A Nightmare on Elm Street”) and Richard Brake (“Barbarian”) have now joined the cast of this new blood-soaked fairy tale!

Brake will portray Pinocchio’s creator, Geppetto and it seems Englund will play his friend/conscience, Cricket. The pair will star alongside Cameron Bell, Jessica Balmer, Jack Art Gray, and Peter De Souza-Feighoney.

It has also been revealed that the doll used will be fully practical, and created by Emmy-winner Todd Masters (“Dune: Part Two”). “I’ve forever loved the original and demented story from the 1880s,” Masters said. “So I was excited to join this production, to bring this little puppet to life — with all practical FX. This version is still a little puppet’s pursuit to becoming a boy… but the way he becomes one, is extremely gnarly… and frankly, very fun.”

“Not only is the script dark, twisted and gory, it’s also at times very funny,” said Brake in a statement. “Todd Masters and his team have created incredible practical effects. Audiences are in for a crazy ride.”

“Pinocchio: Unstrung,” will follow a young boy named James as he learns of his grandfather Geppetto’s deadly secret. The film is directed by Rhys Frake-Waterfield (“Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey”) and produced by Scott Jeffrey under their Jagged Edge Productions banner. It will be the latest addition to their Twisted Childhood Universe, alongside “Bambi: The Reckoning” and the upcoming “Poohniverse Monsters Assemble.”

“Our movie flips everything you know about Pinocchio on its head,” says Frake-Waterfield. “We have an incredibly talented cast and crew working on this. We are heavily relying on practical effects for all of the deaths and creature work. I can’t wait for the world to meet Pinocchio.”

“Pinocchio: Unstrung” is currently eyeing up a 2025 release date. We’ll keep you posted on updates as they become available.
