Austin, a thriving city in Texas, has been rated as one of the ideal cities to live in the United States. It strikes the perfect balance between the serenity and calmness of a small city and a dynamic city life. In recent years, Austin has also witnessed a growth in the job market. All of these factors make it a city best suited for young people, retirees, and families. If you wonder what it is like living in Austin and plan to move to the city, you should have a good idea as to what you can expect your life to be like in the city. Here’s a comprehensive overview of things to know before moving to Austin and different aspects that will contribute to the quality of your life in Austin.

    1. Austin Neighborhoods

Austin can be divided into five major neighborhoods. Downtown Austin captures the hustle and bustle of the city. It has numerous entertainment hubs, which makes nightlife vibrant and enjoyable. This part of the city also has residential skyscrapers, ideal for anyone who wants a big city lifestyle. North Austin, located close to downtown Austin, has panoramic views and is very close to the University of Austin, making it a preferred neighborhood for students and young professionals. South Austin is known for its hip scenes, from urban residential areas and trendy restaurants to quirky architecture. It is also popular for its music festivals, which are mostly held at Zilker Park. While East Austin is a more historical location with older, well-established neighborhoods, West Austin is home to reputed schools and a coveted area to reside in.

    1. Cost of Living

The cost of living score of Austin is 129.1. What this means is that Austin has a higher cost of living than other cities in the nation. However, while this is the face value, the cost of living depends on several factors and is more balanced. For instance, renting and buying a property in Austin may not be considered affordable in general. However, it depends on the neighborhood, the size of the house, and the future scope for development in that area. You can look up projects by builders like Wan Bridge to better understand investing or renting property in Austin based on your budget. Further, utility and grocery prices in Austin are lower than in other parts of the United States, which also makes it a preferred city to live in both by existing residents and people who plan to move to Austin.

    1. Things to do in Austin

Life in Austin can never be dull. The city is known for plenty of activities and events that are hosted from time to time all year round. Downtown Austin is known for live music in a variety of genres, which means there is something for everyone. The Jones Center has exhibitions featuring different styles of art from all around the world. And Moody Theater is an entertainment hub for people who love live performances. You are likely to come across several Instagram-worthy murals on Austin Street as you stroll. In addition to that, people can have an active outdoor lifestyle in Austin. It has various natural attractions, such as springs and parks. The Bullock Texas State History Museum and Texas Memorial Museum in Austin are a feast to the eyes and minds of those who appreciate history and art.

    1. Restaurants, Coffee Shops, and Nightlife

Austin boasts a variety of restaurants with different cuisines. With food trucks here and there and fine dining options spread all across the city, people can choose how they want to dine and are spoiled for choice. Besides restaurants, several hip coffee shops brew fresh coffee. When taking a stroll around the town or going shopping, it is just that convenient to stop by a coffee shop and grab a little break while sipping coffee. Austin is a great place for beer lovers with its breweries like Zilker Brewing Company and Jester King Brewery. Places like Rainey Street, Sixth Street, and Warehouse District are the prime places to experience the city’s nightlife.

    1. The Job Market

Austin is seeing a surge in demand in various industries. Large tech corporations such as Google, Apple, Amazon, IBM, Facebook and Tesla are established in Austin, which has created high demand for skilled professionals. This is one of the primary reasons why job seekers from around the nation and other parts of the world move to the city. Other industries, such as healthcare, education, and retail, are booming as well.

Besides its nightlife, thriving job market, and beautiful neighborhoods, Austin is also a green city. It has various natural wonders that attract families, children, and retirees. The city is home to University of Texas, Austin Independent School District, and other well-established schools. With all that Austin has, life in the city can be interesting, fulfilling, and allow people to live the lifestyle they want.
