Among the comedic geniuses that currently exist, there are none perhaps more clever than Albert Brooks. His phenomenal wit, comedic timing, and capacity for improv has made him a quiet giant of comedy. From giving us some of the best seasons of “The Simpsons“, to hilarious movies like “Defending Your Life“, Brooks has done a lot, and kept admirably gracious through it all. A documentary about Brooks’ prolific career, “Albert Brooks: Defending My Life” is a loving expose on the life of his hilariously quick-witted character actor.
The documentary has Brooks sitting down with long-time friend and director Rob Reiner to talk about his life and accomplishments. Several actors weigh in on either working with or growing up watching Brooks specific brand of comedy. Described as fearless, a genius, and utterly captivating by all, Brooks has enjoyed an extremely varied career. It seems as though there’s literally nothing the man couldn’t do. From playing hilarious oafs to his chilling performance as “Drive” gangster Bernie Rose, Brooks can reach into himself and bring out these characters that stick with you forever.
This documentary is sure to give us a look into the modest, hilarious man behind it all. To be so loved and inspiring to others of his craft is really something. At the age of 76, even the few words from Brooks in the trailer make us chuckle. A man who’s never without timing and a quick laugh, this documentary celebrates one of comedy’s finest.
