The world of esports has witnessed an astounding surge in popularity, attracting millions of players and spectators alike. With its meteoric rise, the esports industry has also seen a substantial increase in prize pools for major tournaments. Let’s delve into some of the most lucrative esports tournaments that have captivated players and fans with their jaw-dropping prize money.

    The International

Leading the pack is ‘The International 2021,’ an annual tournament dedicated to the popular multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game, Dota 2.

This prestigious event boasted a staggering prize pool of over $40 million. Originating as a promotional event for the launch of Dota 2, it has evolved into a colossal championship, largely fueled by crowdfunding sources, particularly the sales of the ‘Compendium.’

The International’s immense popularity is fueled by platforms like YouTube and Twitch, which provide live commentary, analysis, predictions, and player interviews in multiple languages.

    FNCS Global Championship Showdown

Fortnite, an immensely popular battle royale game, hosts the FNCS (Fortnite Champion Series) Global Championship, which has emerged as a highly anticipated esports event. Its prize pool and scale have earned it a spot among the top esports tournaments in 2023.

With millions of players participating worldwide, the FNCS Global Championship showcases the incredible talent and competitiveness within the Fortnite community. The expected prize pool for FNCS in 2023 is 4,000,000 USD.

Mobile gaming has carved a significant niche in the esports landscape, with PUBG Mobile Global Championship leading the charge. As the mobile version of the popular battle royale game, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG), this championship attracts gamers from across the globe.

In 2022, it boasted a remarkable prize pool, securing its place among the esports tournaments with the highest prize money. The prize pool in 2022 was 4,000,000 USD and we expect nothing less in 2023 either.

    CS:GO Major Championships

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) has long been a cornerstone of the esports community, and its Major Championships stand as the pinnacle of competitive play.

Organized by Valve Corporation, these championships have consistently offered substantial prize pools, attracting some of the finest CS:GO teams worldwide. The prestige and history of CS:GO Majors have cemented the game’s position as a leading esports title with significant rewards for the most skilled players.

CS:GO Major 2023 in Paris had a prize pool of $1,250,000 USD. The next major is also expected to at least match the prize pool from Paris, but it could go even higher. The one in Stockholm 2021 had a prize pool of $2,000,000 USD and, hopefully, next year, that prize pool can return to CS:GO major.

    The Land of Heroes

In 2023, Gamers8 hosted a groundbreaking Esports tournament known as “The Land of Heroes,” which raised the bar for esports prize pools with an astonishing $45 million. The event garnered massive attention from players and enthusiasts alike.

The success of this tournament exemplifies the growing influence of esports in the realm of sports and entertainment.

    Free Fire World Series

The Free Fire World Series is a highly anticipated biannual global tournament organized by Garena. The tournament features 18 top teams from 10 regional leagues, competing for a staggering prize pool of $2 million USD.

Last year, due to unforeseen circumstances, teams from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) couldn’t participate due to the cancellation of FFPL CIS Season 4. Similarly, Indian teams were unable to join the event as FFIC 2022 Spring was postponed due to a Free Fire ban imposed by the Indian government. Hopefully, The Free Fire World Series 2023 will be held without any troubles.

    Conclusion

The world of esports continues to experience an unprecedented surge in popularity, captivating millions of players and spectators worldwide. As the industry’s growth soars, major tournaments have raised the bar with jaw-dropping prize pools, attracting top talent and intense competition.

Among these remarkable events, “The International” stands tall as a beacon in the esports landscape, with its annual dedication to Dota 2 and an astonishing prize pool exceeding $40 million. The tournament’s evolution from a promotional event to a colossal championship, driven by crowdfunding sources, showcases the immense appeal and support from the gaming community, bolstered by platforms like YouTube and Twitch that engage viewers in multiple languages.
