The last major “Animal Crossing: New Horizons” update is coming! Nintendo has announced their final update in the latest Direct. Version 2.0 is a free update with a gaggle of much-asked for fan favorites.
Welcome the long awaited arrival of Brewster, the barista in residence at The Roost. Fans of the Animal Crossing franchise will be well familiar with the caffeinated pigeon. For those who aren’t – one can purchase coffee, work behind the counter, and encounter special character visitors. One could also previously store gyroids.
What’s a Gyroid?
If you only came to Animal Crossing in the pandemic (like we did) you may be scratching your head. Well it turns out that those cactus looking, bell mongering, contractors who collected “donations” to build ramps and bridges have names. They are gyroids. Previously we’ve only met Lloid, the construction monopoly holding gyroid.

Lloid is about to get company, and you’re going to get something to collect. The return of gyroids means new things to plant and cross breed. They also appear to be musical in nature and produce different sounds.
I’m on a Boat
For those who consider Dodo Airlines on par with Spirit Airlines… you can now travel in style on the seas with Kapp’n. His boat tours will take you to new mysterious islands. They can be different seasons, times of day, or full of mystery flora.

Harv Builds a Commerce Empire
Harv’s Island – previously limited to just photo shoots and the ever horrifying Wedding Season, is getting a major renovation. He’s bringing in Harriet to help develop his island into some sort of strip mall. By that we mean vendors like Sahara and Kicks (rugs / wallpapers and attire respectively) will settle on Harv’s Island. Reese and Cyrus of the aforementioned Wedding Season will be available to help customize furniture. Katrina the fortune teller and Tortimer the retiree will be joining too.
Stretch It Out
Nintendo is ever insistent on trying to prevent our complete transformation into couch potatoes. They’ve added a group stretching exercise which you can participate in using button controls or a Joy-Con controller.
You Have the POWERRRRR
Not content to let your island villagers lead their own lives? Dream of being president of your neighborhood HOA? Ordinances are for you. You can now set villager schedules, overriding their natural wakeup or sleep times.
Tom Nook Wants Your Bells – Again
What you thought the rapacious raccoon was going to miss out on this update? Ok ok no one is MAKING you spend bells to update your home facade. But Tom is upgrading house facades and storage. Storage is being expanded over 2x from 2,400 items to 5,000. Also if you aren’t swimming in bells at this point in time what HAVE you been doing?
Can You Smelllllll What Tom Nook is Cookin?
Get your kitchen crocs and toque balance on, it’s time to cook! Crops and cooking are coming to this Animal Crossing: New Horizons update. You can now grow crops like tomatoes, wheat, sugar cane, potatoes, carrots, and more. You can combine the ingredients into new DIY Recipes+.

But Wait, There’s More… Decor!
The Pro Decorating License will allow designers to add lighting and ceiling decor. You now can add accent walls. Previously all 4 walls of a room had to use the same wallpaper.
While you don’t need a license for it, you can now add two more max bridges and inclines. Want to fence someone in? There are now 9 new styles to do so with.
You’ll also now be able to apply patterns you’ve made previously to flooring and wallpaper. You can even wear your patterns on clothing now!
Strike a Pose
The in game camera app is going to feature 2 new modes. Handheld camera mode aligns to your character’s eye level. If you switch to a tripod mode you can move your avatar into the picture too.
The update adds 11 new reactions so you can show them all off as you strike said model posing.
Hoarders Delight
Naturally new items are coming with the update. We also spotted the infamous frog chair in one of the scenes!
For item hoarders (like us) now you can access your increased storage via a storage shed. WHICH YOU CAN PLACE ANYWHERE ON YOUR ISLAND. Gone are the days of having to run back to your house to empty your pockets of trinkets. Need cash now? By that we mean need bells now? You can also place an abd in the spot of your choosing to withdraw funds from.
We feel so liberated already!
The Rest:
K.K. Slider will have 4 new songs. There are 11 new hairstyles. Island Life 101 App with tips and tricks for those new to Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Ladder set up kits will allow you to permanently place ladders. Neighboring residents can also just show up at your home unannounced…
All of that comes free in the Animal Crossing: New Horizons update to version 2.0.

Dream Designs – Just a Dodo Airlines Ride Away…
Nintendo also announced Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Happy Home Paradise! would be available as a paid DLC.
The goal is to visit an archipelago of islands and help design dream vacation homes for Paradise Planning. Visitors will give you their dream specs and your job is to make it happen. No word on if you get to charge Tom Nook or Lloid level fees.
The archipelago has a variety of island climates and sizes. Furniture and decor is already available on the islands for you. There are a bevy of customizable options for interiors and exteriors.
Your reward for making these dream homes happen? Poki currency. You can exchange it for furniture unavailable on your main island.
There are a cornucopia of other buildings you can build.
You can also share your designs and see other players’ designs.
The design-tastic DLC will cost you $24.99 USD.
“Animal Crossing: New Horizons” update version 2.0 and “Animal Crossing: New Horizons” – Happy Home Paradise! arrive on November 5th, 2021.
