Backyard Baseball is Back! Playground Productions Drops New Trailer and Release Date

One of my favorite games growing up was Humongous Entertainment’s Backyard Baseball. I would play that game for hours. It was basically the indoor kids version of going outside. That was me, hogging the computer much to my brother’s dismay. The fun thing about it though was that he could put in his bid for who I should pick on my team. Most of the time, I went with his advice. All this to say that it was a really fun game that made a lot of our childhoods (90’s kids anyway) better for having it available to play. And now, a new Backyard Baseball is here.

Coming from Playground Productions the new game is presenting itself as a wild ride through nostalgia while adding some new features that fans of the game can really get behind. I don’t know if you all remember but the original game had a lot of outdated things in it that were fine in the 90’s but don’t really carry over well now. Mostly there was a lot of kids with accents that are borderline offensive now. We’re excited to see the characters get a glow up both in looks and personality. What was a 2D adventure is now in gorgeous 3D.

Welcome Additions to a Very Nostalgic Game

The new title is packed with content honoring the franchise’s legacy while pushing it forward. Players will choose from 30+ playable characters, experience a rich character customization system, discover unlockables, and participate in new game modes like Backyard Derby. The game spans the Casual, Simulation, Sports, Cozy and Family genres – built for everyone from die-hard fans to first-time players.

Not only is it damn beautiful, we will also now be able to play it online with others. That means that I can play with my little brother in a different state! Now we can hold the fierce competitions we so longed for in the 90s when we were backseat driving each other’s teams.

    Introducing the Backyardiverse

In addition to all of that, this release marks the beginning of something far larger. Playground Productions is building the “Backyardiverse” — a connected world where sports, storytelling, and culture all come together. Backyard Baseball is not simply a throwback; it is the kickoff to a whole new era of Backyard Sports.

“Backyard Baseball” will be launching July 9 launch on Steam for Mac and PC, with Nintendo, Xbox, and PlayStation versions arriving soon.
