Everything You Need to Know About Lottery in Kuwait

The lottery in Kuwait is different from that in any other country. Technically speaking, there is no official lottery in Kuwait. However, residents participate in prize-linked bank draws, which are often called the lottery. They are completely legal and regulated. As for access to lottery-like games online, then casinos are their go-to.

Participating in the Kuwait Lottery: How Does It Work?

In order to participate in the Kuwait lottery, you need to have open accounts in the banks that offer such draws. For each bank, there is an eligible account, as well as certain ticket prices and a timeframe during which draws are held. Traditionally, you buy a ticket, but in this Kuwait lottery guide you will realize that by “ticket price,” it is meant the minimum amount you must have in your designated bank account to be eligible for the draw. Here are five major Kuwaiti banks that participate in the Kuwaiti lottery.

    National Bank of Kuwait

To participate in the lottery held by the National Bank of Kuwait, you need to have an Al Jawhara account. The ticket price is 50 KWD, and draws are held weekly, monthly, and quarterly. As for the prize pool, it ranges between 20,000 KWD up to 1,000,000 KWD.

    Gulf Bank

Gulf Bank also offers a lottery for those who open an Al Danah account. The minimum amount you should hold is 100 KWD to participate in the draw. There is a daily draw with prizes up to 1,000 KWD. The other draws are held quarterly and annually, but they have much higher prizes. Gulf Bank holds the highest lottery prize of 2 million KWD.

    Commercial Bank

Commercial Bank has a maximum prize of 100,000 KWD; however, what makes them stand out is their daily draw with a prize of 7,000 KWD for people holding an Al Najma account. Draws with 100,000 KWD prizes are held both monthly and quarterly.

    Burgan Bank

If you have a Kanz (treasure in Arabic) account in Burgan Bank and a minimum of 200 KWD in it, you will be eligible for the lottery draws. Draws are only held twice per year: the first one has a prize of 500,000 KWD, and the other of 1,500,000 KWD, the second-highest lottery prize after that of Gulf Bank.

    Ahli United Bank

Even though Ahli United Bank has lower prizes, the conditions are easier. For instance, you only need 50 KWD to be eligible for the draws. And even though the weekly draws have a prize of 1,000 KWD, it is distributed to 25 players, which gives more chances for everyone. They also have a quarterly draw with a prize of 250,000 KWD, which is also decent.

    Online Lottery Types Kuwaitis Play

Lottery in Kuwait is not restricted to the national lottery. Players can access online casino platforms that offer them a plethora of options, from classic lotto to toto and keno.

    • Classic Lotto: this is the standard version aired live in online casino sites, whereby there are up to 50 numbers, and if you guess 6 numbers of the ones drawn, you win. Such lotteries include EuroMillions, US Powerball, or Mega Millions.
    • Virtual Lottery: this is the same as classic lottery but it is based on random number generation like any casino game. Since it is not a national lottery, it is a casino game; it can happen anytime and be always accessible to play on these platforms.
    • Pick 3 / Pick 4 / Pick 5: these have smaller prizes but easier odds, as they are the same as virtual lottery but scaled down to 8 or 10 numbers. The sequence can be flexible too. If you guess the numbers consecutively, your prize is higher though.
    • Keno: this is a lottery-style casino game. In Keno, there is usually a set of 80 numbers. You should guess 10 or 20 of them; the more you guess, the bigger your prize. Keno is available as an RNG computer game in casinos or as a live game with a real presenter.
    • Scratch Cards: these are classics in the lottery world. Sometimes you find them on the streets with vendors. Online casinos also offer them. They come in multiple themes and prizes. The goal is easy—you just scratch the card to match 3 numbers or items.
    • TOTO: Available in online casinos, Toto combines elements of sports betting and lottery games. Players typically place multiple bets, often around six selections, which are then pooled together by the casino into a single Toto pool. The total winnings are later shared among the winning participants.

Lottery in Kuwait: The Bigger Picture

In a country where gambling is not allowed, frowned upon, and even restricted, banks in Kuwait have found a loophole to give residents the thrill of “buying a lottery ticket” and participating. Technically speaking, no harm, no foul—the players are simply keeping their money in the bank, and the bank is being cautious enough to put them in a draw with the chance of a win. As for those who want to enjoy a wider variety, they resort to offshore online casinos, which are also blocked in Kuwait, but with the availability of VPNs and anonymous payment methods, Kuwaitis register and play on them.
