Conan O’Brien to Host 2027 Oscar Ceremony

Here we go again! We recently discussed changes that were happening to the Academy Awards. Procedures and nomination criteria are new for various categories. We’ve seen new categories added. Now casting directors can receive Oscars! Thee’s even an eventual shift coming to the ceremony being broadcast on YouTube, and two ceremonies in a row hosted by Conan O’Brien. The latter of those is not changing as the former late night host has picked up the emcee job for a third year in a row.

    ABC is Keen On Conan

After the ceremony earlier this year, Conan received glowing reviews from one of the more important critics. The Executive Vice-President of ABC’s unscripted television department, Rob Ellis, raved about him. “Conan has, obviously, a standing offer to host as long as he wants.” Ellis said. His sentiment is echoed by fellow Disney executive, Craig Erwich. Erwich is the head of the Disney Television Group. He said of Conan, “His singular comedic voice makes Hollywood’s biggest night one of the most entertaining celebrations of the year. We’re proud to welcome him back and look forward to what he and the producing team deliver next.”

Erwich is right to be proud and to look forward to things. Conan has brought a freshness to the Oscars that to be fair, anyone familiar with his comedy would’ve predicted. In the 2025 ceremony he sang a pointless song about not wasting time. He had a sand worm from Dune playing musical instruments. He introduced an ad that told people about a novel way to watch movies called, going to the theater. In 2026 he spoofed Casablanca by having characters reiterate plot points. There were jokes about Timothée Chalamet. And best of all, he rampaged his way through Best Picture nominees dressed as Aunt Gladys from Weapons.

One of the Best to Ever Host

There is a reason that Conan has stayed so relevant over the decades. He was and is one of the smartest comedians of all time. It doesn’t matter if he’s hosting, travelling, or podcasting, the man’s comedic presence is undeniable. Conan’s energy is paralleled only by Billy Crystal in terms of Oscar hosts. That’s why it’s no coincidence that the last person to host three consecutive ceremonies was Crystal. So yeah, we are very much looking forward to seeing what Conan will do his third time around when the 99th Academy Award ceremony airs on March 14th, 2027.
