In honor of Mario Day, ACE.com, the free-to-play social gaming website, has analyzed Mario-related Google search data across the United States from 2022 to 2025 to determine fans’ favorite characters.

It comes as little surprise that Mario tops the list, with an average of 676,600 searches per month, accounting for 24% of all Mario character-related searches. The iconic Italian plumber, who lives in the Mushroom Kingdom with his younger twin brother Luigi, has been the star of the franchise since his first appearance in the 1981 game Donkey Kong.

Princess Peach takes second place, receiving an average of 247,900 searches each month, which represents 9% of all searches. First introduced in the original 1985 Super Mario Bros. game as Princess Toadstool, she is the ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom and one of the series’ most recognizable characters.

    Yoshi in Third?!

In third place is Yoshi, the dinosaur-like companion who frequently assists Mario and Luigi and has even starred in his own spin-off games. The character receives more than 213,000 searches per month and is widely regarded as one of the most beloved sidekicks in video game history. I would argue that he should rank higher but I’m biased.

Toad and Bowser round out the top five. Toad, known for his distinctive mushroom-shaped head, receives around 209,000 monthly searches, while Bowser, the franchise’s main antagonist, is searched for 179,800 times per month, accounting for around 6% of total searches.

    Mario’s popularity is unmatched

Overall, Mario’s popularity remains unmatched. The character alone accounts for nearly one in four searches, generating 2.7 times more searches than Princess Peach and 3.2 times more than Yoshi.

Looking at regional interest, Utah ranks as the most Mario-obsessed state, with around 35,020 monthly searches, or 97 searches per 10,000 residents.

California follows closely behind with 94 searches per 10,000 residents, while Nevada ranks third with 89 searches per 10,000 residents.
