“Let it Go” in Klingon Just Hits Different

I’ve probably seen “Frozen” a hundred times with my little girls and I could tell you that the music for that film never gets old. I know the music backwards, forwards and sideways. But now, now I’ll have to do some studying because this version we found on TikTok in Klingon is nothing short of amazing.

Princess Jackie from The Painted Palace performed a wonderful rendition of “Let It Go” in the Klingon language. She dressed as Klingon Elsa in a clever cosplay mashup of Frozen and Star Trek. Needless to say, Jackie’s performance won the talent show at Emerald City Comic Con.

Growing up a huge Star Trek nerd this performance is truly magical. Klingon which is a language that has a few different discernable rules. For example they do not use tenses (past, present, future). Instead, they mark aspect (whether an action is completed or ongoing), with time indicated by context or adverbs. They also use Object-Subject-Verb (OSV) Order. I remember having a cassette tape that was a kind of “Learn Klingon” situation but unfortunately never gained fluency. I can however still appreciate the beauty in the language and hearing this song really just hits different.
