Filmmaker Mike Flanagan is continuing his mission to adapt every single Stephen King property. This time, he has his sights set on the 1980 novella, “The Mist.” The IP was previously adapted into a 2007 film directed by Frank Darabont, and a 2017 series for Paramount.

Flanagan will direct and write the screenplay for Warner Bros. Pictures. He’ll also be producing for Red Room with Tyler Thompson and Spyglass’ Gary Barber and Chris Stone. Alexandra Magistro will executive produce for Red Room.
In the story, a small town in Maine becomes enveloped in a thick, mysterious fog. When residents try to enter the mist, they are attacked by alien-like creatures. Most of the story centers around a small group of survivors who are stuck inside a grocery store. It’s not long before people begin to go stir crazy and dangerous. Leaving everyone with the choice to run outside and risk the mist, or stay inside and watch mob rule take over.
Flanagan has previously adapted King’s “Gerald’s Game,” “Doctor Sleep,” and “Life of Chuck.” He is currently developing “Carrie” as miniseries for Prime Video.
