The cast for James Gunn’s upcoming “Superman” sequel “Man of Tomorrow“ is starting to take shape. Gunn has confirmed Lars Eidinger (“All the Light We Cannot See”) will play iconic DC Comics villain Brainiac.

“In our worldwide search for Brainiac in Man of Tomorrow, Lars Eidinger rose to the top. Welcome to the DCU, Lars,” Gunn shared.
Brainiac first entered the DC Comics canon in 1958’s Action Comics No. 242, and was created by writer Otto Binder and artist Al Plastino. This character is a super-intelligent alien who uses a shrink ray on cities to make them small enough to put onto bottles for their collection. In the past, Brainiac has been a big enough threat that they made Superman and arch nemesis Lex Luthor team up to stop them.
It’s rumored that “Man of Tomorrow” could involve the same kind of uneasy truce.
Eidinger will star alongside David Corenswet, reprising his role as Superman, and Nicholas Hoult returning as Lex Luthor. Gunn will once again direct, write, and co-produce with fellow studio head Peter Safran.
“Man of Tomorrow” is currently slated to hit theaters on July 9th, 2027.
