Experience the thrill from gambling by putting on these films or TV shows

From the bright lights of Las Vegas to the hazy backrooms of Monte Carlo, casinos have long proved the perfect setting for stories of luck, greed and debauchery. Here’s a look at some of the greatest television shows and films that throw the dice of drama, lies and victories.

Casinos are not just rooms filled with flashing lights and slot machines; they’re adrenaline universes, tension universes, wild personalities grasping for gold or slipping into ruin. Hollywood (and the planet) has been totally hooked on this place since forever. From poker-faced con artists, down-on-their-luck gamblers and smooth dealers executing impossible robberies, the casino universe has given us some great moments on the screen.

Live casino action brings a modern twist

While the big screen manages the drama and glamour of casino life, the live casino experience is transformed beyond all recognition in real life. Today, most players feel that same excitement on the web, where the site offers a huge array of live dealer games, crash games, fast games and betting.

One such example is an online website specialising in casino slots; a field that is intended for people who love variety, class and security. It boasts the Aviator game of old to modern versions of the classic slots, all designed to bring the live casino atmosphere into one’s home. For film and TV enthusiasts who like the thrill of a bet, it’s a great way of experiencing that same excitement between weekend film marathons.

The classic that started it all

If you’ve never seen Casino (1995), you’re missing out on one of Martin Scorsese’s finest pieces of storytelling. Starring Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci and Sharon Stone, it’s a masterclass in crime, power and the dirty underbelly of Vegas. The film peels back the glamorous curtain of the casino world, showing how mob money built the city of sin and how greed eventually tore it all apart.

From the elegant tables to the tough backroom politics, Casino splendidly captures both sides of the coin. It’s intense, sophisticated and bristling with unforgettable performances, especially Sharon Stone, who steals every scene she’s in.

    The coolest heist in Vegas

No list would be complete without Ocean’s Eleven (2001). George Clooney, Brad Pitt and their crew pull off one of the smoother robberies in recorded history. It’s a clever, sexy and genuinely fun ride that has you finding yourself rooting for the thieves. The breakneck pace, sassy dialogue and stunning photography make it endlessly replayable.

The clincher? It captures the tawdry underbelly of casino culture; the lights, the games, the rush of risk. It’s all so smooth and hypnotic that by the end of it you find yourself wishing you were in on the racket too.

    When math meets blackjack

Based on a true-life tale, 21 (2008) follows the adventures of a team of MIT students who employ brains (and lots and lots of card counting skill) to beat the house. They are led by Kevin Spacey’s treacherous professor until greed and duplicity get in the way.

What makes 21 so gripping is how it blends intellect with thrill. It’s not about luck; it’s about skill and that twist on the usual casino movie formula keeps it fresh. If you’ve ever thought blackjack was “just another card game,” this film will change your mind.

    Chaos in sin city

Other times the casino is the focus, it’s the setting for utter madness. The Hangover (2009) took that formula and stretched it to the extreme. Following a bad (and incredible) bachelor party, this comedy broke box office records and Las Vegas as the last place on earth for disaster.

Amidst tigers, missing teeth and a very bewildered groom, the casino setting lends another twist of absurdity. It’s evidence that even when the odds are against you, laughter can be the biggest jackpot.

    The queen of underground poker

Based on the real-life story of Molly Bloom, Molly’s Game (2017) plunges into the exclusive world of high-stakes poker run by the rich and famous elite. Jessica Chastain gives a tour-de-force performance as the woman who built an illegal empire using raw intelligence and ambition.

The film is fast-paced, heart-wrenching and sharp-edged, just the thing for any poker drama enthusiast with no macho nonsense. It’s a film that makes you feel as if you’ve been given a hand in a game which you can’t help but play watch.

    Bond’s ultimate gamble

When James Bond’s tux was worn by Daniel Craig, Casino Royale (2006) revitalised the spy franchise. The tension-fraught poker scenes are some of the most memorable of the entire Bond franchise. Every hand feels like life or death, with the stakes being higher than ever before.

This film blends action and intellect beautifully. The casino sequences aren’t filler, they move the story forward and they show Bond’s psyche and vulnerability in ways fans never dreamed.

Glamour, grit and a dash of drama

Where Suits made office soap operas cool, Las Vegas (2003-2008) gave us a classy TV show about the daily chaos of running a casino. Directed by James Caan and Josh Duhamel, it’s a blend of crime, comedy and corporate warfare against the backdrop of the flashing neon lights of the Strip.

Each show uncovers the behind-the-scenes chaos of coping with visitors, security and high-rollers. A bit cheesy in places, but all part of the fun – it is Vegas, after all.
