Disney’s 2010 animated film, “Tangled,” will be the latest in the company’s arsenal to receive a live-action remake. The project is in the early stages of development and is circling Scarlett Johansson (“Jurassic World: Rebirth”) for the role of Mother Gothel. However, nothing is set in stone with her involvement at this time.
The upcoming feature is directed by Michael Gracey (“The Greatest Showman”) from a script by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (“I Know What You Did Last Summer”).

The live-action remake of “Tangled” has been brewing for a while. Nevertheless, its development was paused temporarily due to concerns after the live-action remake of “Snow White” underperformed.
Luckily, the success of similar adaptations like “Lilo & Stitch” shows that audiences do have an appetite for these films. The box office just points to fans of Disney’s more classic princess line-up being a lot less open to change than fans of more modern animated films.
It’s assumed that “Tangled” will follow the plot of its predecessor. Following a magically long-haired girl named Rapunzel, who has spent her life locked in a tower. That is, until a wayward thief finds her, forcing her to experience life and find out who she really is.
We’ll keep you posted on updates about “Tangled” as it develops.
