Cracker Barrel Changing Logo Back After Outrage

Change is hard. Sometimes it’s necessary, sometimes it’s just the way of the world, but in general, change is hard. Over the decades businesses change things up from time to time to bring in new logos, slogans, names, etc. Remember when the Sci-Fi Chanel changed their name to SyFy? Yeah, not all change is good but we carry on. Unless of course you’re a conservative American who has way too much time to be upset about the logo for Cracker Barrel. If that’s the case and you were really upset about the new logo, well good news for you, they’re changing it back!

In an effort to modernize and update things, the Cracker Barrel restaurant chain has been redoing elements of its menu and its branding. It’s not like they were doing much with the logo, they were just taking out the old guy and the barrel. But it appears that some people were REALLY attached to it because the backlash was swift!

Company stocks reportedly dropped 12%. And even President Donald Trump found time to comment on the change.

“Cracker Barrel should go back to the old logo, admit a mistake based on customer response (the ultimate Poll) and manage the company better than ever before.”

In fairness, the old logo did have more personality than the new one. With just the lettering, the logo doesn’t do much to make itself stand out in any real way. At least the “old timer” as he’s called by the restaurant chain gives it some character!.Frankly, we think they should’ve done tests to see if people liked the man or the barrel more.

If you’re going to spend $700 million on a transformation plan for your chain, maybe you should do a focus group for the logo?
