Daily Habits That Support Digestive and Immune Health

Your digestion and immune health have a strong connection with each other. They literally go hand in hand. And if you’re somebody who struggles with digestive issues, then this read is for you. There is so much information out there on the internet that can really confuse a reader. When it comes to figuring out how exactly you can heal your gut, the number of things you need to keep in mind can be overwhelming. This article serves as a checklist that you can keep in your mind when you embark on your gut-healing journey, because it’s not only possible to heal your digestion and increase your immune health, but it’s also fairly simple.

    Prioritize Real Food

That’s right, you need to start consuming the kind of food that’s real. If you’re a vegan, for instance, your go-to dinner shouldn’t be a bunch of Beyond Burger patties in a burger. Processed foods are the number one reason for gut health disorders. Buy fresh from the aisle and only ever buy food that has an expiry date of no longer than a week, and then consume it readily. The less you rely on processed foods and opt for natural and gut-healing whole foods like home-stewed bone broth instead of a canned soup from the shelf, the happier your gut will be.

    Don’t Compromise on Fiber

Fiber is essential for healthy bowel movements which makes it possible for your body to get rid of toxins. It also helps regulate your gut microbiome which is very important when it comes to maintaining your gut health. If you’re looking for whole food options that can help you get your daily fiber intake consider whole wheat bread and other whole grains like quinoa, and vegetables. These food are rich in fiber. Insoluble fiber is great but you also need some soluble fiber sources such as fruits, nuts, and seeds. These are great options for helping promote nutrient absorption in your gut.

    Fat Plays An Important Role

When it comes to fats the debate is wide and full of contradictions. But science has proven that everybody needs to consume a healthy amount of fats from healthy sources. Beef tallow, avocado oil, desi ghee, and other fruit oils are a great source of energy and they help absorb vitamin A, D, K, and E, which are solely dependent on fats to be soluble in the body.

    Drink Enough Water

Staying hydrated is very important when it comes to taking care of your gut health. It’s because water helps dissolve the food in the stomach, activates some of the digestive enzymes that are in your gut and is key when it comes to transporting the nutrients found in food to the cells in your entire body. If you’re dehydrated, your gut microbiome starts to get affected, which then hampers healthy digestion, barring the transference of nutrients from your body. Dehydration can cause constipation as well, which can be very painful.

    Choose Superfoods

“Superfoods” is a buzzword that’s thrown around a lot in the healing industry and it would be wise to consider including them in your diet to reap the benefits without having to rely on supplements for your gut health. Some of the super foods include berries, avocados, nuts, mushrooms and even garlic and ginger. You should also consider adding greens superfood powder to your daily smoothie to get the maximum benefit of leafy greens without having to chow down a soggy salad if you’re not a salad person.

    Manage Your Stress Levels

Cortisol, when it’s raised, is by far one of the most dangerous hormones when imbalanced. It can wreak havoc on a person’s body. When your body is stressed it can affect the gut-brain axis. That results in hampered digestion. People who are feeling stressed can go into fight-flight-freeze mode. And that can impact their gut health negatively.

    Conclusion

Taking care of your gut is not difficult per se but it requires a lot of consistency and self-care. You constantly have to make good choices to make sure your gut and, therefore your immune system, are working perfectly. It means you require a serious lifestyle change to be able to reap the benefits of a healthy gut.
