Everything That is Important to Know Before Betting on Boxing

Unlike football, boxing does not appear in the 1Win app line up every day. But it is the irregularity of the fights that ensures high interest in the discipline. With accurate analysis, it is possible to find overvalued markets, which are absent in mainstream sports. In particular, this applies to undercard and fights involving little-known boxers.

What You Need to Know Before You Bet on Boxing

Betting on a fight isn’t just about picking a winner. Before entering the line, you need to understand what you are dealing with: who is fighting, for what and by what rules. Otherwise, the forecast may not come true due to the format of the fight and incorrectly analysed statistics.

Before you bet on boxing, clarify who is entering the ring. In amateur boxing the rounds are short, athletes use helmets, and the outcome is often determined by points. In professional boxing there is no head protection, the style of refereeing is quite different and often fights end early. These points are extremely important in betting. For example, at the Olympics, the chance of a knockout is much lower than in the main card of the evening in Las Vegas.

Each fight takes place in a specific weight class. Even minimal differences in weight affect the dynamics of the round. The middle division has more short-distance fights, while the heavyweights have a higher risk of knockout. The number of rounds is not always standard. If in ranking fights no more than 6-8, in title fights up to 12.

The format of the fight affects the principles of making a prediction. The title fight is dominated by high motivation of opponents and strict control of judges. While showdowns often take place without an official verdict.

Reliable information is a mandatory element of the betting strategy. Data on the card line-up, weight and statistics should be sought on BoxRec, official promoter pages, ESPN Boxing and The Ring websites. Social networks give fragmentary data, but for betting you need an accurate picture: who, when, how many rounds and at what weight.

Main Markets and What They Mean

The boxing line-up looks modest, but the clear wording hides a lot of nuances. Each market is tied to the format of the fight, the level of the fighters and the style of the fight. If you consider these in combination with statistics, you can find favourable betting offers. This is where boxing betting strategies start:

    • Winning one of the fighters. The simplest market that determines the winner. Sometimes with a draw (3 outcomes) and sometimes without (with a return in case of a draw). The second option is safer in equal pairs. In women’s and amateur boxing draws happen more often, which is worth considering.
    • Method of victory. You can bet on victory on points, knockout or technical knockout. If one of the fighters is famous for endurance, and the other – a heavy blow in the first rounds, the market “method of victory” will give a good opportunity to analyse.
    • Total Rounds. It is similar to the total in other sports, only here it is not about the score, but about the duration. For example, a total of more than 6.5 means that the fight must go at least seven rounds. Newcomers should look at the usual style of fighters and the number of completed rounds in recent meetings.
    • Whether there will be a knockdown. Often the line gives a yes/no option for a knockdown in a fight. Here statistics are very useful: who falls more often and how often gets up. Sometimes it is more profitable to bet not on the victory, but on the fact of falling in the ring.
    • Exact ranges of rounds. Allow you to bet, for example, that the fight will end from 7 to 9 rounds. The strategy will work if you have a good understanding of when a fighter begins to “sag” by breathing and how he reacts to a prolonged fight.

If you focus on the situation in which a particular market is appropriate, that’s a big advantage. In boxing, it’s not the victory itself that matters, but how you get there.

    Boxing Betting Strategies That Work

Details are crucial in boxing: how an athlete fights, who he has fought before, how he feels with an opponent with more mass and under whose guidance he has prepared for the meeting. Use boxing betting tips to make an informed choice:

    • Analyse the style of the fighters. One prefers to work at a high pace and flood the opponent with jabs, while the other is looking for the moment for one decisive punch. Style determines the scenario of the fight and influences the marquees on the total and the method of victory.
    • Opposition Level. A win over 10 middlers does not equal one loss to a champion. Look not only at records, but also at the quality of opponents in the last 3-5 fights.
    • Geography of the fight. Home arena and local judges are a factor that often gives a couple of extra points on the scorecards. In evenly matched fights, they can decide the outcome.
    • Coaching and “angle”. Successful tactics are a credit to the coach. A strong angle can adjust the plan of action in the course of the fight, and a weak one can not save even a star.
    • Change of weight category. If a boxer loses or gains weight, it can affect his endurance and speed. Take this into account when assessing the athlete’s chances of winning a fight with an opponent who is initially larger.

In boxing, the one who prepares for fights in good faith wins. It’s the same story with betting: it’s not a guess, it’s a calculation. When you analyse the statistics, emotions take a back seat, so the chances of making an accurate prediction increase.
