The Top 5 Strangest Casinos in the World

There are plenty of casinos around the world with different designs, layouts and themes, making for different experiences and environments. With the likes of Las Vegas providing so many different casinos, there is plenty of variation when it comes to design, games and environment; however, there are a whole host of strange and unique casinos around the world. While online casino live experiences have been drastically improved in recent years, the brick-and-mortar casino environment is still not replicated, especially in those with different themes and designs. So today, we are going to take a look at the top 5 strangest casinos in the world.

    The Taxi Casino

Known as The World’s Smallest Casino, the casino in a taxi takes the casino experience to a completely new level. This venue allows players to place bets, but only offers one live casino game to be played, which is blackjack from the back of a London black cab. Starting its journey across the UK, the taxi was introduced in 2016 and provided a table, a dealer, TVs for sports betting and plenty of games for visitors to play. The ability to feature a full casino experience in a small taxi is very impressive, but nonetheless, it makes it one of the strangest casinos in the world.

    Nevada Prison

Prison is a place that is commonly known for having incredibly poor conditions, little to do within the 4 walls of the cells, and more importantly, a lack of connection to the outside world. However, the Nevada State Prison changed the typical prison treatment and implemented a casino on the grounds. In 1932, the prison’s casino opened with the massive popularity of gambling in the area stemming from the infamous Las Vegas. The casino was entirely run by the prisoners themselves, playing games like blackjack, poker, and even betting on sporting events. The danger of this was evident, and the casino was shut in 1967 due to a change in laws and outlook on gambling, as well as the prison not owning an official license to run the casino. The casino was a big hit when it featured for 35 years in the prison; however, the closing of the casino was imminent, but it still remains one of the strangest casinos we have seen.

    X-Train

As suggested by the name, this casino features a moving train, taking passengers from Los Angeles to the infamous gambling capital of the world, Las Vegas, in a roughly 5-hour journey. This train features different levels of comfort, with normal tickets starting out at $100 and casino accessible tickets costing $500, including catering and beverages. The train features plenty of tables and different opportunities to play some of the most popular casino games, as well as take part in sports betting with the large onboard screens. With the ability to carry 500 passengers, this train combines practicality, comfort and a unique casino all into one journey to the famous Las Vegas. Since it opened in 2011, it has been a popular tourist attraction like no other in the world, making it a very unique casino concept.

    The Antarctic Casino

One of the most remote places on the planet, Antarctica, is home to roughly 5,000 people at a time, at most. The Esperanza Base is used by around 60 people at a time, and features plenty of different buildings and services to make the extremely cold environment seem more like home. One of these buildings includes a casino for residents of the camp to use, allowing plenty of games to be played amongst the members of the exploring team, providing a little taste of ordinary life while they are battling the cold climate.

    The Pyongyang Casino

One of the most protected nations in the world, with little to no tourism prohibited within the country’s borders, North Korea has a strict ban on gambling; however, in the capital city of Pyongyang, a hotel by the name of Yanggdako holds one of the few legal casinos across the whole nation. It is run by a Chinese company and is targeted to be used by Chinese tourists, some of the only people allowed to visit the country. The machines are more than likely outdated, but they feature plenty of them, as well as tables for popular games to be played. The casino itself is relatively normal; however, the strange aspect of it is that it is located in the secretive nation of North Korea, which has strict laws on what people can and can’t do, with gambling banned across the country.

    Final Thoughts

There are plenty of casinos around the world that feature unique themes, environments and atmospheres, creating experiences like no other. As the industry continues to develop, we may even see more and more strange casinos becoming popular, bringing new experiences to players’ gaming experiences.
