Glenn Close, Billy Porter Join New “Hunger Games” Film

We have more exciting news from Lionsgate’s upcoming film “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.” Eight-time Oscar nominee Glenn Close (“Wake Up Dead Man”) and three-time Tony winner Billy Porter have (“Christmas Karma”) just joined the cast!

Close will portray Drusilla Sickle, and Porter is cast as Magno Stift.

“Sunrise on the Reaping,” will take us back to Panem, 24 years prior to the events in “The Hunger Games.” It opens on the morning of the reaping of the Fiftieth Hunger Games, aka the Second Quarter Quell.

The film is directed by franchise veteran Francis Lawrence from a script by Billy Ray. Like previous entries, this will be based on the bestselling book series by Suzanne Collins. Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson will produce via Color Force with Cameron MacConomy executive producing.

    The Cast

Close and Porter will star alongside Elle Fanning (“The Great”), Joseph Zada (“Invisible Boys”), Whitney Peak (“Gossip Girl”), Mckenna Grace (“Slanted”), Jesse Plemons (“Zero Day”), Kelvin Harrison Jr. (“O’Dessa”), Maya Hawke (“Inside Out 2”), Lili Taylor (“Daredevil: Born Again”), Ben Wang (“Karate Kid: Legends”), Ralph Fiennes (“The Return”), and Kieran Culkin (“Animal Farm”).

“Glenn Close is a dream Drusilla,” said Jacobson. “She brings so much of her intellect and imagination to each role, creating characters who are unforgettable and iconic. I think Glenn and Francis will have a ball bringing Drusilla from the page to the screen.”

“Billy is one of those rare performers who can dazzle and devastate in equal measure on stage and screen,” they add. “He made an indelible impression on me when we worked together on Pose, both as an actor and a human being. Casting this show has felt like winning the lottery every time one of our idols said yes to us. To be able to announce Glenn Close and Billy Porter together is an embarrassment of riches that we can all celebrate.”

“The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping” hits theaters on November 20, 2026. You can check out the teaser trailer below:
