    The Best Gaming Controllers Ever

Gaming has existed for a long time, and deciding on the best gaming controllers is always a challenge. While PC is a dominant platform for players, console is the main choice for many. Many generations and types of consoles have come out. With each one, the companies have changed the gaming controllers’ look or functions.

However, as time goes on, reflecting on some of the best controllers makes you see how far we have come. Additionally, it shows that even some of the older devices still hold up to this day.

From the Atari to Genesis, PS1 to Xbox Series X/S, there have been countless controllers. Each of them worked to improve upon their predecessors. Some even were notable for design and divided people on how they held (looking at you Nintendo 64). While others, such as the DualSense changed the gaming experience. Below, you find some of the better controllers that have graced players’ hands throughout time.

    DualSense – PlayStation 5

The DualSense is the first big winner of being one of the best gaming controllers. While you’ll occasionally find yourself researching how to fix stick drift on PS5, its innovation is incredible. The Adaptive Triggers function puts feeling and action behind game actions. For example, pulling the trigger in a shooter. Or trying to pull an object and feeling the tension.

Moreover, its vibration and motion provide an in-depth immersion for players controlling their characters. The controller is best on display when playing ASTRO BOT, one which shot it to Game of the Year status and proves that the DualSense is one of the best controllers ever. Personally, we feel the official controller holds up over many of the retro PS5 controllers out there.

    Wii Remote – Nintendo Wii

The Wii Remote brought forward motion gameplay and made it so that you got a workout as well. Wii Sports made moving while playing a fun time, and its responsiveness was noticeable. Nintendo likes to try new designs for their consoles, and the Wii Remote did wonders. Motion controls can be tough. But, getting to experience something like Tennis with physical movement will never be forgotten in my gaming experiences. Plus, you could turn the controller on its side and have a good option for non-motion control titles.

3-Button Control Pad – SEGA Genesis

I know what you’re thinking; the SEGA Genesis game pad is very simplistic in design. I know, but it’s honestly still one of the more comfortable controllers when it comes to long-term usage. The controller was wide enough to not cause any cramping on your hands and its design was simple. Many of the games for SEGA Genesis did not require complexity because of how there were mainly three inputs. A good example is a title like Streets of Rage. In that, you had controls only for jump, attack, and the special move. The controller may not look extraordinary, but the size and simplicity made it a good fit for many games during the time.

    Standard Controller – Nintendo GameCube

The Nintendo GameCube controller is another winner when it comes to being a great gaming controller. It has many different buttons on it. But, it is one of the most durable controllers still to this day. Others like the Nintendo Joy-Cons, often get stick drift. However, the GameCube controller could go through countless sessions of Super Smash Bros. Melee or Super Mario Strikers and still come out with no issues. The controller felt great in your hands, and even the quality of the buttons and how they felt was top-notch quality from Nintendo. Plus, the company has a knack for making some of the more unique designs when it comes to their console controllers. But one thing is for sure: the GameCube controller will always be their best made.

Xbox Elite Series 2 – Xbox Series X/S

The Xbox Elite Series 2 controller is not known for its great durability. However, its ability to remap buttons using the Xbox Accessories App was a huge game changer. Its grip forms perfectly in your hands, making long gaming sessions more comfortable. Plus, the controller having paddles on the back makes quick access functions for games a huge advantage. The bumpers on it feel solid to press down on each time. Overall, it’s a good option for players looking to get more comfort and accessibility with button input. However, its quality and $200 price tag are things to weigh for it.

Those are some of the best gaming controllers of all time. While some may seem like odd choices, they represent some of the best parts of that era of gaming. From iconic looks to fantastic durability. Controllers are important to both console and PC players. Having a good one can make all the difference when it comes to how you play in a game. Additionally, it can affect your experience, as bad controllers may dampen the mood no matter which game you’re on.

Each of the ones selected above is great in their ways and stand out from the rest. While gaming is continuing to evolve and stay impressive with its tech, even older controllers are optimal. Having gone from long wires to being able to play from the comfort of anywhere you want, the controller you hold can be amazing.
