    Original Showrunner Developing “Grimm” Movie

Network television had been no stranger to supernatural stories during the 2000s and 2010s. There was a glut of shows based on mystical creatures and the supernatural. Including, uh, “Supernatural” for starters. But then you also had “Once Upon a Time,” “Teen Wolf,” “The Vampire Diaries,” and “Grimm.” The last one is specifically noteworthy thanks to one of its co-creators and writers, David Greenwalt (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Angel“).

He and some of the original creative team are coming back together to develop a “Grimm” feature film!

    “Grimm” – NBC/Universal

Josh Berman (“CSI,” “Bones”) is spearheading the revival of “Grimm” in cinematic form. He’ll be writing and executive producing the upcoming revival film. Fortunately for fans of the series, Berman is bringing back Greenwalt and series co-creator Jim Kouf. Hopefully keeping this lineage intact will make for a strong continuation.

Because the project is early in development, we don’t know if the original stars will return. Reports indicate the hope is to turn it into a franchise, so maybe more films could follow? Series leads David Giuntoli and Russell Hornsby aren’t currently attached to any recurring series, so now would be a good time to get them on board. Just saying.

    “Grimm” – NBC/Universal

The question is, what kind of a continuation is this going to be? “Grimm” had a good run of six seasons and 123 episodes. If you do a feature film based on this, how much of a direct continuation can you do without losing the potential new audience? Lean too hard into the continuity and you risk losing the newcomers. Make it too much of a fresh start and you could lose the fan base that supported the show to begin with. It’s a balancing act that has the potential to make fans very happy if it’s pulled off properly.

The series has a rich lore that is ripe for diving back into and we’ll provide more information as it becomes available.

You can stream “Grimm” on The Roku Channel and Peacock.
