Lionsgate’s R-Rated “The Little Mermaid” Gets 1st Trailer

Lionsgate is getting in on the trend of turning beloved fairy tale characters into bloodthirsty murderers. This time around it will be an R-rated take on “The Little Mermaid.” Aurora will be joining other recently reimagined characters like Winnie the Pooh, Pinnochio, Bambi, and The Grinch.

While Hans Christian Andersen’s original 1837 tale was nowhere near as kid-friendly as Disney’s 1989 or 2023 adaptations, we don’t think he intended for it to get THIS bloody.

The upcoming film is written and directed by Leigh Scott (“Yellow Brick Road”) and is based on mermaids’ deadly mythos.

“The Little Mermaid,” follows archaeologist Dr. Eric Prince (Mike Markoff) as he discovers proof of an ancient and advanced civilization. During his dig on a small Caribbean island, he meets the mysterious and beautiful Aurora Bey (Lydia Helen). But the couple’s newfound romance has some deadly consequences. Will Eric choose true love, or the end of humanity as we know it?

Markoff and Helen star alongside Jeff Denton, Samuel Selman, Sean Michael Argo, Winston Crooke, Steven Yniguez, and Manon Laurent.

“The Little Mermaid” is scheduled for a digital release on December 17, 2024. You can check out the bloody-soaked first trailer below:
