Snoop Dogg Working on “Planet of the Apes” Inspired Movie

Rapper Snoop Dogg is currently hard at work promoting his new album “Missionary,” but he also has other irons in the fire. In addition to the new record and his work with the video game “Fortnite,” he is also developing a movie. The film is said to be inspired by his love of “Planet of the Apes,” but with a new spin.

“I can’t really give up the storyline, but I’m going to [share] the idea,” Snoop said. “I love ‘Planet of the Apes.’ ‘Planet of the Apes’ made me wait too long to see the next one. So I’m going to do something in that vein, where you don’t have to wait. But just imagine it was dogs instead of apes.”

Color us curious about that pitch alone.

During a performance in New York to launch “Fortnite” Chapter 2 remix, featuring vocals from himself, Ice Spice, Eminem, and the late Juice WRLD’s estate, Snoop also discussed his new record “Missionary.”

He believes the tracks “Last Dance With Mary Jane” featuring Jelly Roll and Tom Petty, and “Gunz n Smoke” featuring 50 Cent and Eminem may be featured in the new “Fortnite” rollout.

“Well, Tom Petty is a weed song, so I don’t know if they’re going to let that one in,” Snoop told Variety. “But the 50 Cent Eminem song is a real street record that sounds like it’s supposed to be in this game with all the different things that I’m seeing. Especially in my maps, so it fits perfectly with the things I’m doing.”

He went on to express his love for working with Eminem. “That’s Slim Shady, that’s my guy! That’s my Libra gang partner,” he adds. “So we like to do as many things we can do together, we like to do because we’re family. So I was glad to see he was part of this as well.”

Snoop also confirmed “Missionary,”  will feature Method Man, Sting, BJ the Chicago Kid, Smitty, Jhené Aiko, and more.

“Missionary” is slated for release on December 13th, 2024. We’ll keep you posted on updates about his “Planet of the Apes” inspired movie as they become available. You can check out the first single “Gorgous” below:
