In a move that is sure to lead to a big box office success, Spider-Man star Tom Holland is set to team up with Christopher Nolan on his latest movie. The movie, which is being kept firmly under wraps, will also see Matt Damon once again work with the Oppenheimer director.
Holland, 28, obviously is a big box office draw, but outside his work in the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe), he has been involved in projects that have not proven to be big successes, both in terms of financial and critical assessments.
The British actor will no doubt be very keen to get going and Nolan is one of the most bankable directors out there, and viewers are no doubt already eagerly anticipating just what might materialise.
The latest of Nolan’s works will be his 13th outing, and his record of success is akin to that you might enjoy with McLuck Casino, and it’s worth noting that as well as producing big financial hits, he also continuously produces films that leave critics in raptures.
His second movie, 2000’s Memento, thrust him into the mainstream, and his subsequent hits include the Batman trilogy, Inception, Dunkirk, Interstellar and 2023’s Oppenheimer. He has secured no less than eight Academy Award nominations, finally winning in 2024 for Best Picture and Best Director.
The movie also saw its star, Cillian Murphy, win the Best Actor Oscar, and perhaps Holland will feel that teaming up with the legendary filmmaker will help him earn the respect of audiences beyond those who lap up comic book hero flicks.
As well as seeing this project set for a 2026 release, Holland will also see his fourth Spider-Man film come out that summer. That film starts shooting in the summer of 2025 and will be helmed by Destin Daniel Cretton.
That film will be released a few months after Avengers: Doomsday, which will see the Russo Brothers once again behind the camera. Among those who are cast for this iteration are Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Ebon Moss-Bacarach and Robert Downey Jr., who returns to the franchise, not as Iron Man but as Victor von Doom, an announcement that led to a predictable surge of interest from the MCU’s massive fanbase.
Tom Holland first made an impact in Hollywood in 2012’s The Impossible, starring alongside Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts in the disaster movie before first playing Spider-Man in Homecoming in 2017, which proved a huge hit. 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, banking $1.95 billion to become the seventh highest-grossing movie of all time.
2022’s Uncharted, based on the hugely successful video game, proved to be something of a disappointment, with the pairing with Mark Wahlberg not faring as well as many would have hoped, bringing in $407 million at the global box office.
That said, a sequel is apparently in the works, meaning that Tom Holland is set for a busy few years, to say the least.
