Chris Hemsworth in Talks for Disney’s “Prince Charming”

Well, that didn’t take long! Disney is prepping an upcoming film about Prince Charming; the character who was wooed by Cinderella at the ball and set off to find her. When you make an announcement like that, it almost turns into a reverse “Cinderella” plot at that point?

Who’s going to play Prince Charming and can slip into the glass… uh… royal suit? Hollywood has no shortage of leading men, but Disney may have gone ahead and tapped its own well to bring out one of its standbys to take the role.

Yes, that’s right, Disney is reportedly in talks with one of its own, Chris Hemsworth (“Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga”) to play Prince Charming. It’s certainly a solid choice. Hemsworth is a dashing man and has proven himself to be effective in drama, comedy, and action. If you haven’t seen it, check out his performance as the late Formula One driver, James Hunt, in the film, “Rush.” He was also, arguably, one of the best parts of the ill-fated “Ghostbusters” (2016) film. Oh, and of course, he’s Thor.

According to the reports on the matter, Disney has not officially confirmed or denied anything yet, declining to comment on the information. Things could change on the matter too, after all the project itself was only announced earlier this month. We also reported then that the film would be worked on by director Paul King while being co-written by King, Simon Farnaby, and Jon Croker. That team had also done the script for the very well received “Paddington 2.”

Prince Charming isn’t exactly the most interesting character in the Disney pantheon. In “Cinderella” the mice get more character development than he does. This would afford any actor who plays him, the opportunity to expand on the Prince in a way that could make him standout. Or at the very least, make him seem a bit more than an opportunist who kisses sleeping girls in forests and has a thing for women in fragile footwear. Can’t help but feel there’s also a sorely missed opportunity to have done this film years ago and cast Prince as the Prince. Then everyone could dance to “Purple Rain” at the end.

Anyway, if the casting becomes formalized, we’ll update you later.
