“Gladiator II” Gets Rated R For ‘Bloody Violence’

The highly anticipated sequel to Ridley Scott’s 2000 Best Picture-winner “Gladiator” has been rated R by the Motion Picture Association (MPA). Like the original film, this seems to be a hard R for “strong bloody violence.” And from the looks of the trailer, it may have just as much bloodshed as the first film.

“Gladiator II” will follow an older version of Lucius (Paul Mescal), the son of Lucilla from the first film. After his home is conquered by the tyrannical emperors who now lead Rome, Lucius is forced to enter the Colosseum and must look to his past to find strength to return the glory of Rome to its people.

Mescal stars alongside Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, Connie Nielsen, Denzel Washington, May Calamawy, Fred Hechinger, Lior Raz, Derek Jacobi, Peter Mensah, and Matt Lucas. Scott directed the project from a script by David Scarpa.

“Gladiator II” hits theaters November 22nd. You can check out the trailer below:
